Significant Milestone In Our Cultural History
Bog Walk, St. Catherine (June 24, 2019) – The organizers of Emancifest today announced their significant milestone which is dubbed the greatest emancipation celebration in our cultural history. Featuring a showcase of talents in culinary arts, sports, culture and music, this festive occasion brings together citizens and communities since its first staging in July, 2008. This auspicious and impressive event puts the community of Sligoville, St. Catherine in a key position for growth and further development.Â
Mrs. Natalie Garvey (formerly Neita Headley), the brainchild of the annual initiative is known for her continued care and support for the constituency of North East St. Catherine. Her selfless attitude toward community development has provided the opportunity for entrepreneurship and community spirit for thousands of Jamaicans from home and abroad. Ecstatic Garvey expressed her pleasure that Jamaicans at home and in the Diaspora are now more aware of Sligoville and the place it holds in our history as a nation.
In addition to its social impact, the 12th anniversary milestone is expected to bring economic value to residents of the community and surrounding areas as they trade indigenous products and services. With an estimated 20,000 spectators per event, Emancifest is dubbed Jamaica’s largest and safest free community festival.Â
